We just bought a new house and this is the kitchen. We are going to put in granite counters and a backsplash but we're going to keep the existing cabinets. I want a light color granite. Should I paint the cabinets? Just get new pulls?
I'd love to hear any ideas!

Before you do anything just wait! Live with it for awhile and see what you like and don't like about it. How dark/light it is a different times of day.

The cabinets look to be in good condition. Unless you hate the oak I would not paint them. New hardware, countertops, backsplash, and wall color will make it look like a new kitchen.

Later on you can paint them if you feel you want a different look.

I agree...wait on the cabinets. New pulls and a colorful wall (blues and greens work well with the oak as do certain grays) should give this space a jolt along with your new countertops and backsplash. If you decide to paint the cabinetry down the line, draw inspiration from the granite. BTW, you might consider breaking up all the wood with a glass door or two on upper cabinets and some colorful rug runners. Also, you can consider painting the island to offset yet compliment the oak cabinets.

Blessings in your new home.
