Advice: Treadmill on 2nd Floor?
Hi, need some professional help-have gotten conflicting advice. Have a house built in 2004 (by Ryland, so I'm worried.) Want to put a treadmill in one of the upstairs bedroom. Very worried I'll fall through the floor one day-not my best plan for losing weight. Any idea if I can put the treadmill up there, or should I stick to the concrete on the first floor? Thanks.

Your floor is designed to handle the live load, however it will likely shake and rattle the house more than you care to hear if you are running on the treadmill.

I wouldn't be concerned with a modern house falling in from the treadmill but I think you'll be happier with the treadmill on the slab if you are going to run. If you're going to keep it at a walk or fast walk it probably won't matter. A walk / fast walk meaning that you always have one foot on the treadmill. When running you are actually "airborne" at times in your stride.

Here is an article on steps to take if using a treadmill on a second floor of a house or apartment.

You might consider getting a livestock mat. They are 3/4" X 4'X6' and cut it down to the size of the treadmill base (+ 2" overhang). They are somewhat rigid rubber mat that will take out a lot of the vibration.
