HendermomExterior Closet Design for a Two-Story Foyer
My husband and I plan to build a coat closet in our two-story foyer. I'm concerned about how the closet will look since the ceiling is so high, there are no recessed areas in this space, and we are not building the closet from floor to ceiling. I don't want it to look like a giant box, yet I am at a loss for how we can make this closet stylish instead of the boxy look that I am envisioning it will turn out to be.
All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

SparkyA picture of the area would help. When I had cathedral/high ceilings in my last 2 houses the closets had a plant shelf on top instead of going all the way to the ceiling. You can put an object d'art on the top or a plant. I'd probably opt for a silk plant so you wouldn't need to water it, which would be a pain unless you had access from the second story.

Bob FlemingSparky's solution is a great one! We have a tall entertainment cabinet in our LR, under a 16' ceiling and we have plants on top of it. Extrapolate that to your situation and make the closet decorative, like a piece of furniture.
