I have a little kitchen that is connected to a small living room by half a wall. I think to break a wall and make one big kitchen/dining room. however, living room has a fireplace, and when it becomes a kitchen/dining room will fire place look good? Are there any dining rooms with fireplaces?

Diningroom fireplaces are quite common. With the half wall, you still have the visual openess. If it serves as extra counter/work space, I'd reconsider because you may miss it.

I agree with twelvepole, a fireplace is not the issue. If you can open it up if there is a wall area to the ceiling I would get rid of that. Otherwise, create extra seating with a bar area (countertop and stools) where the half wall is. Without a picture I can't tell if it spans several feet or a whole wall. The bar should only span 6 or 7 feet long. I have created a small living area in my large kitchen as its they place that everyone comes to hang out when entertaining!
