I am pulling up carpet that is glued to cement floor & was woundering how i can remove the glue? Thanks

I believe there are at least a couple of adhesive removers, depending on the type/color of the glue. If you can scrape some up off the concrete or take some attached to the carpet...the flooring dept in a home store (or possibly even a hardware store), may try some remover on it to see which is a better remover for your adhesive.

At least this is what I did with vinyl floor adhesive, and they then were able to sell me the right product to remove the adhesive.

I have done that a couple times and I recommend a razor floor scraper. The pro kind have a single 8" blade, and the cost is reasonable. Hard work and you sure need gloves, but it goes faster than one would expect. Buy extra blades; they don't last long.

In one case in an industrial building the adhesive was still soft for some unknown reason and the razor blade gummed up badly. We experimented with solvents and found a combinations that helped. We had to don masks to protect us from the fumes and we used up a bunch of purchased rags, but eventually got the job done.

Come to think of it, you said you are taking up carpet. The adhesive used for carpeting is usually just squiggled on the floor and is relatively easy to get up with a razor scraper. In a couple cases for small areas I have used a 4" hand razor scraper.

Yes, as Bob suggests.... a mechanical means of removal by a 4 or 8 inch blade scraper should work well, and no chemicals involved.

However if you were going to acid stain the concrete or apply mortar and tile, I think removal of all the adhesive residue would be necessary.

I'll third that - the razor scraper.

Definitely get some good gloves.

Thanks to all for your help.When i took up the carpet there was tile so i used the scraper thing and it came up pretty easy but my shoulder is killing me.
