prefinished bamboo floor arching up, solutions plz~ Sign In/Join
posted
Hello,

The bamboo floor was laid out last summer, floating on top of cement. Since the cement underneath is not perfect leveled, I could feel that some spots was popping higher than others.
But since last Nov. or so, there are so far 4 lanes of the floor arching up with the joint of 2 pcs as the peak. It will be flat again if stepping on it but arches right up afterwards. Any solution please~~~
Thank you very much,

It sounds like your installer did not leave enough "gap" around the edges and the floor is heaving up. Not sure but we have a floating floor and our installer left at least a half inch gap around all sides and we have had no problem. It is not on cement, however.

Chichi: we need to know your location. Please put it in your profile - as I have done - so we won't have to ask again.

In addition to May's suggestion, it could also be because there is no moisture barrier under the flooring. That is an absolute must when laying flooring over a concrete slab.

Like the other poster it sounds as if it was laid too tight to wall or doorways. I saw one that was done this way and you could step on the raised portion and it would go flat but would raise in another location a few rows over.

Mine does that in one spot because the cement is not level. We have a foundation problem that will be fixed this summer which is why we chose a floating floor because we're going to have to pull up the floor to put some additional rebar and then they are lifting the foundation 2 inches on one end. This was not caused by putting too close to wall, we left 1/2 inch all the way around. It kind of springs when we walk on the one spot. Is this what you are experiencing? If so you need to pull it up and use a leveling compound to level the cement.
