Upgrading Sliding Glass Doors
We want to upgrade our sliding doors. Is there any price difference on the door itself or the installation if we go with french doors vs SLIDING french doors?

Not sure it is practical to replace just the doors since there are so many different shapes of sliding track used.

You don't say where you are but a large metro area probably has a contractor or two that specializes in replacing the tracks; there are dozens of different shapes used and a specialist would stock them all.

To replace sliding doors with pivoting or hinged doors probably means replacing the whole jamb set as well. That will mean getting under the siding, and that could be expensive. If you are an experienced DIYer you could save a lot of the installation cost, but you would need a lot of experience to handle it.

If you are going to have it done by a contractor, replacing the whole jamb set would probably cost about the same whichever way you go. As a retired general contractor, I would be most concerned with the siding issue.

We changed a set of french doors from just one opening door to allow both to open. We had them installed by Andersen. They had significant issues with the installation including the jambs, etc. We also had to deal with the issue of the siding since the old french doors by Atrium had a slightly different opening than the Andersen doors. We did a lot of renovations at the time and we didn't think that the doors would be a big issue, but they were for us.

To amplify on my previous post, I did replace a sliding patio door with french doors once, for a customer. The siding was stucco, and the site was in SoCA.

Removing the slider required chipping away the stucco on each side, and some on top. I ordered the new door and jamb set from Home Depot. It was large and awkward to handle but I hired a helper.

I got lucky in that the height of the opening was barely enough to slide the new jamb in place. Once in place I fastened the new set to the side framing and then repaired the stucco. Had to paint all the stucco in that area, of course.

The end result was very good and the owner was pleased.
