basement remodeling Sign In/Join

I am a disabled vet and I just moved in with my wifes friend we are renting the basement. Her friend has said we can do what ever we want to the basement and what ever we spend comes off are rent. The hard part is I'm unemployed and I really want to finish the basement so we can live down there comfortably. There are all kinds of problems with electrical and other stuff in the home. I really wish I could get on one of the shows that come and help us make the place great. We have a large area to work with outside. I really want to know if there is any thing out there that can help us. Please reply if you have any ideas we need the help. Thank you.

You can try this link: http://www.hgtv.com/about-us/q...r-hgtvcom/index.html and then possibly this link http://www.hgtv.com/contact-us/package/index.html

But I think to get on a particular show you need to contact the shows production company. HGTV doesn't create most of their content. Your location is key, if you're not in an area where the production company works you're out of luck. I think you have a better shot at winning Powerball. Good luck.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You should have started a new thread with the question. One companies take on the difference between renovation and remodeling. To me decorating is generally not structural, so paint, paper, carpet or other flooring, furniture, window treatments and accessories.

When we talk about remodeling vs renovation, it’s much more than semantics. To renovate means to get a room (or home) back into shape. To remodel means to fundamentally change it. Renovating a garage can mean installing tile, while remodeling it can mean turning it into a guest house. A good Austin remodeling contractor can sort out the semantics for you, but it’s wise to be an informed consumer yourself.
A renovation has the potential to be drastic.
If you’re renovating your kitchen, you may gut the whole room and replace everything old with something new. After it’s all said and done, you really have a new kitchen on your hands! However, a renovation might also be a much simpler and less time-consuming process, like replacing the furniture or that outdated wallpaper.
A remodel is, by definition, drastic.
However, a kitchen remodel will, more so, turn the kitchen upside down. A remodel will involve changing up the floor plan, and maybe even the function. Maybe you have limited counter space for cooking, and want a space big enough and multifaceted enough to impress a chef. That would require more than an upgrade – that would require change, and perhaps a whole working crew.
Remodeling vs renovation: why does it matter?
Why is it important to understand the difference between remodeling and renovation? Who cares what you call it, as long as you do it, right?
Well there are a few reasons it’s good to explore the differences. For starters, when you’re home shopping, or looking for a contractor to help you with your current home, you’ll want to know what remodeling vs renovation means. A newly-renovated home really is quite a different thing than a newly-remodeled home. It may have been restored to its former glory, perhaps, (think of an old home with a new paint job), versus drastically changed, from head to toe.
Remodeling is normally a bigger investment into a property than renovation. It’s not really a matter of what’s better or worse, though, but a matter of what you’re looking for!
Knowing the difference between remodeling and renovation can also help you plan what to do with your own home. When you’re renovating a room or a home, you’re really in one mind set – what can I improve? When you’re remodeling a room or a home, you’re thinking – what can I change? If you’re not even aware of these two different mindsets, you may feel scattered and unfocused. Of course it’s possible to remodel and renovate at the same time, too!
With a good Austin home remodeling contractor, the task of remodeling, investing big into your home and giving it more than just a face lift, becomes an easy task. So, get in touch if you’re interested in remodeling a room in your home, or your whole home.
