Over at HGTV's sister network DIY they are running a series of shows on Sweat Equity, and they have a sweepstakes tied to it this month.

The web site has a wealth of information about various projects and the potential return on investment the subject homeowners could expect from their various projects. If you're thinking of doing a major remodel I'd check out the write ups on the projects, not every project has seen a net increase in home value as people have over improved for their neighborhood. As with all things real estate your local market conditions may not match up with the expected returns from the shows. What can be done in a hot real estate market with $500K plus "starter homes" can't work in a depressed housing market in rural Pennsylvania, West Virgina or Kentucky coal country where you can buy a whole house for $20K.
