Does anyone have experience using subway tiles as kitchen countertop? Thanks!

I would expect "subway tiles" to have a soft glaze that would not last long on a counter. You have to check with the supplier first off to see what sort of a rating they give the tiles.

Personally I like porcelain tiles for a kitchen counter top. You can get them "sized" so that the edges are square. That means they can be spaced very tight so there is very little grout.

We used these in our last place and they were really great. The manufacturer cast them as 12x12" and then trimmed them to 11.5x11.5".

"Subway" has become a rather generic term applied to off white rectangular tile. The original N.Y.C. and Paris Metro tiles were a super hard ceramic that would stand up to a lot of wear and tear.Tile isn't a great counter top choice because bacteria can survive in the grout. Can you ask your tile installer about grout alternatives? Or can you have a seperate food prep area?
