We are in the process of remodeling after a hail storm last year. Ten of our wooden windows were replaced with vinyl replacement windows. I'm asking for an opinion. The ten wooden windows were reuseable according to the company who replaced the windows. These were just the windows, not the frame. My problem is that the general contractor came out the next day, painted the porch, and just took all of my windows. He said he took them straight to the landfill. I'm not sure that I think that is what happened, and even if it did, he did not have my permission to take the windows. Am I being foolish in thinking that he shouldn't have taken them? I just don't think I am....There were three different people who wanted them so they had value. Thanks for any feedback!

If I understand it correctly you are talking about glass with a wooden frame. The only place I've seen them used is for craft projects. They might sell for $5. if that. It is worth it to accuse the man of lying?

That's not the point, really. He should not have taken the windows. I had several uses for them and they weren't his to take. It will cost me way more than $5 each to purchase new windows for what I was going to use them for. These windows were going to make my project possible. Thanks for your reply!!

Even if they were in his way on the porch he had no right to take them without asking. You do not have any cleanup phrases in your agreement with him where he is to "clean" the site? If not, I would find a way to complain if it was me.

If he was your general contractor, clean up is normally part of the job. Plus no one would pay you for new windows when you had used.

Well, at the outset I said I was looking for opinions...and I guess we all want people to agree with us! but seriously, I am heartbroken over the fact that the project I was going to use them for is now going to be prohibited by cost. I cannot justify or afford to buy new windows for it. I did not need new windows for that and these windows, don't forget, according to the installer, were reuseable. This contractor has never removed anything else in cleaning up from this job, and this job has been ongoing since last March. These windows had value and I just believe he should have at least asked me before he removed them. Thanks!

If you're looking for some used sash for some project try a Habitat for Humanity Re-Use store. They normally have them by the ton.
