I just talked to my contractor about remodeling my kitchen. I like what i'm hearing and i can't wait to get this done. What are your experiences with contracted remodels?

Contractors are people; some are good and some are bad. But if you like talking to him, that is a good indication.

You don't say where you are; put it in your profile as I have done so we won't have to ask. If you are in CA, you can call the state contractor's board and find out if there are any complaints about your selected contractor.

I wouldn't waste my time calling the BBB since they aren't allowed to tell you much.

I was a licensed general contractor in SoCA for some years before I retired. As a result, I got their monthly newsletter in which they listed the banned contractors for the last month. The two most common reasons for suspensions were no license and failure to complete a job.

So ask if your contractor is licensed. Some states require it and some do not.

Suggestion checking on Angie's List in your area, reviews are from customers only.
