I have a corner fireplace with a mantle. The area is above the mantle is the wall. It's plain and I want to dress it up. Any suggestions? Any pictures that others can send? I was wanting to put some wood trim above the mantle but have no idea wheere to start. Any websites I can view?

I recently designed a mantle and surround above a fireplace similar to yours for someone I work with. I included an arch framed out from the wall a few inches. The owner will eventually put a mirror in the space. At the bottom of the arch were legs with some of the same moldings as the mantle.
You can see there was a vaulted ceiling, but you could easily adjust the panels to accommodate a flat ceiling. Also, you may even prefer the opening to be straight rather than arched for a flat ceiling.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Craig@WestwooddriveBTS,

That is a beautiful fireplace wall! A simple solution might be to hang a picture in place on the wall; we have done that and were satisfied with the effect.

The owner is going to put a mirror in the niche. The work should be done now so I'll have to get a new picture and post it.

Glad they didn't do a TV. Since I didn't see power and CATV outlets in there I figured they wouldn't.
I might have put an outlet up there for possible Christmas decorations.

Finally I was able to get a picture from the homeowner. Here is the final product! (The white circle at the top of the mirror is a reflection of a smoke detector I believe)
Craig, Always a challenge putting mirrors into a space, sometimes the reflection isn't what you want to see. A slight tilt downward would eliminate the smoke detector but give you a full on view of the door. Still, your part turned out very nice thanks for the follow up post/picture.

Am I seeing correctly - there is no hearth? I tried enlarging the picture but I still can't tell for sure.
I think you're correct, but it is also a sealed gas fireplace so no fear of sparks flying out to the carpet or burning logs rolling out to the carpet.

Thanks, Sparky. I was curious about it because I have a gas fireplace ( works but never used), which I have done away with the hearth when we had wood floors installed. I have a feeling it isn't, "code" but I am not certain. It is open - not sealed.
