building code ?? Sign In/Join
posted
We are in the process of enclosing our 2 story back porch into livable space. We are doing this on our own but have gone the honest way and got a building permit. Problem is found out that there is a "nailing pattern" for the floor joists, framing walls, sub flooring. I can go on forever...I called the city person to ask where I can find said nailing schedule he said there is a IRC Code book. Our city is using the 2006 edition.

Problem is I can't find what I want in the book. Is there an easier way to find what I am looking for. Do all states follow the same building code. Or is it state by state, city by city. Any tips or suggestions would be great. I am pulling my hair out. This project has been going on for awhile and we keep having to stop to research.

I just googled IRC code 2006 and it came right up. Section R602.3 contains a chart that gives the nailing requirements. I don't know if the link will stay, but here it is:
