Single Car Garage Remodeling
Hi,

Does anyone have any good ideas to remodel a small garage so I can park my car in it? Plus the washer and dryer is also in there which is not ideal.

Thank you!

Princess,

If all the stuff were out of the garage would your car fit? If so we can do things, if not you need a bigger garage or a smaller car.

This type of shelving http://ourbigshelf.com/ high around the perimeter of the garage can help get stuff out of the way. You can bring it down the wall to just above the hood height in front of the car for even more storage. These shelves are easy to DIY and relatively inexpensive. Racks for ladders, tools and other items can store stuff up the walls and off the floor.

Purging unneeded stuff helps. Pulley systems for raising bikes up to the ceiling will keep them accessible while clearing up space.

Instead of pegboard, slat wall is a sturdy way to organize space.

If you watch DIY Network at all they have one of their little DIY Project infomercials on organizing your garage.

These books can give you some ideas as well.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

It is very hard for anyone to give you ideas other than basic cabinetry. With your car in the garage you should have some idea of space surrounding it to come up with a basic plan. Just try to avoid building out where your car doors will open. Garages unless they were made with extra space do not allow much room. So you can go up rather than out for storage. They make some pretty good garage cabinets now days so I am sure you can use some of that in the "dead spaces".

As far as the W/D haven't got a clue other than move. Then you have to replumb for the supply and drain . Not to mention electric for both.

Sparky's ideas on storage are great! I installed some of them for customers when I was contracting.

Don't know your abilities, but a contractor may be able to extend the garage on the front end to move the W/D forward.
