Happy Mother's Day Dreamers!

I had a wonderful visit from Adele who stopped in Chattanooga on her way home to GA from OH yesterday. During her visit we talked about doing another Quilt of Dreams for the 2009 DH winner.

Nanatoo & I had to do MANY extra blocks for the '07 (reversible) and again for the '08 Dream Quilts. We had thought the '08 would possibly be the last quilt, due to lack of interest and participation.

If you wish to do a quilt; I think an EASY "Rail Fence" Block with Grape/Wine themed fabrics and colors would be suitable for the Wine Country DH!

This is YOUR project, your gift to the DH winner.

So, here's a poll . . . .

Question:
Dreamers, do you want to make a quilt for the winner of DH '09 (in Sonoma, CA)?

Choices:
Yes, and I'll make some blocks.
Yes, but need someone make 1 for me.
Maybe, if I have the time.
No, the Dream Quilt has run it's course.

I, for one would like to see the DH Quit continue but, that is easy for me to say as someone has been kind enough to make my block for me and include it on the quilt...last year one was made for Lady-D also.

I will be more than happy to send some cash for this service, for myself and Lady-D! Just let me know!!

And as ALWAYS, THANK YOU!!!

Can it be really simple, like the last one in Mue's links with just 3 pieces? Maybe the top and bottom rectangles in the (same?)purple/green/grapes/wine theme fabric and a white rectangle in the middle for the signature?

I'm thinking with everyone genuinely participating, this pattern could get awfully busy.

Signatures would be running both north/south and east/west.

If its really simple I would try to make my own block,I think maybe others might also.I would like to see it continue however it's done. The quilts in the past are true works of art.

Thanks for the links, Mue, I hadn't seen those. Here is the one I was thinking we could use for instructions, if there's enough participation.

EASY Rail Fence Block

If everyone follows these simple directions they can make 4 little Rail Fence blocks at a time! You can use the middle "rail" to sign with you avatars or signatures.

Yes, KiA, that show (Solid Gold Dancers) is where my screen name comes from. When I was younger and was asked what I wanted to be when I grow up, I would answer that I was "going to be a Solid Gold Dancer"!

Nursejudy, Lindi, Ark1, these are SOOO simple, you can almost do them w/your eyes closed. And BigD, you and LadyD will always be part of the quilts, even if you don't sew!

We'll just see if enough Dreamers want to get involved!

They can be real simple ones and some that is'nt,and the tallented ladies that put it together, place them accordingly. Big Grin like have a boarder and then, the next row have the simple ones, and then the little less simple, and so on and so on. Wink Can we hand stitch?Would'nt mind doing a vinyard scene.Wine country,Yeah.Hey Solid Gold Dancer if I made a center piece and you had a lot of extra squares could they be two quilts?Like a extra small one to hang on the wall,or drape over a chair.

KiA,

The "center block" has always been done by me or Nanatoo because we "reproduce" the center block of the actual HGTV DreamHOME every year with "mixed media" (in fabrics, photos, fabric-painting, thread-painting and quilting). But, that's very nice of you to offer, thank you! The HGTV DH is the "center piece" of each Quilt of Dreams so the winner will always think of the DH and the MB Dreamers who made them such a great keepsake.

Just click on the links below my name on this post to see the center blocks in each of the DH Quilts.

njgal, this would be a great way to start using your new machine. Congratulations! Wink

I have never made quilt blocks..but a friend of mine has offered to teach me. I am willing to make blocks, the last 2 yrs you ladies have been gracious enough to make one for me.
My turn to pitch in and help, this summer things should be looking up here at home. DH finished treatment last week! Smile
Please get the instructions to me and I'll put my Mom's good machine to work.
Happy Dreaming. ~tjpug

SGD, I would like to make an attempt at a square again this year and have mamawx8 do my name. She had to complete my frame around my square this year, but it did turn out beautiful or I will even donate money if needed. Big Grin

I'm ready to help out with the quilt. All that went wrong last year (my Dad dying, Mom collapsing and ending up in a nursing home, all the paperwork for his estate and her admission, taking care of their house until it sold, etc.) won't happen again. I have plenty of wine/purple/magenta/dark green/verdant greens/deep sky blue, etc. fabrics just yearning to be a part of a quilt. I really like the first sample Mue posted. But, no matter, tell me what you want and I can start sewing.

The quilt is the greatest keepsake of all in the DH because it is made by friends!

SGD, I think it's because of the message board closing. Out of sight, out of mind. You two wonderful ladies have kept this tradition going the past two years by doing even more work yourselves. Maybe it's time to throw in the towel.

I could handle some of these no problem. Just need to get my butt in gear next winter, or perhaps I should do it over the summer while I'm not in hibernation mode.

The poll,10% has run it's course. How can a dream run its course,if the quilt has run its course the dream home would have run its. Frown I think the Quilt is the most precious item in the Dream Home.I say it is a tradition and the tradition should continue. Wink
