appliance companies contact Sign In/Join

I wonder if the appliances used in the Smart Home will contact owners when something needs a service/replacement of filters. Today, we received a letter from one of our companies saying to replace the filter. This message has been showing up on our refrigerator's sensor. We've been busy, busy, busy. We were ready to make the purchase and haven't gotten around to it. We will take advantage of the postal delivery. This will save on gasoline and it is saving some green compared to the store where we made our initial purchase. One time, we went to the store and they were out of stock. This service makes for smarter shoppers, too.

Cool Trish....DH is now getting email reports on his car through ONSTAR....letting him know everything's ok....although it's only been one month and shouldn't it be? Eek

The car verbally tells him he is almost out of gas....and all sorts of data never seen before by us....smart? Yep....something else to break? Yep. Meanwhile all the men in my extended family who insist the gas tank still has gallons left even when on E....just maybe a nice voice telling them to fill tank other than wife will alleviate running on fumes...and out of gas....Roll Eyes Razz

Edited for more gibberish:
Funny that you should mention computers' reliability in front of the only Army Recruiter on MB?
Don't use Espanol when delivering the following to your beloveds...

Ms. Alice, you are very hep, imho. Appliance contacts are computer-generated. Too often it is Idiot League stuff; incomplete information, and/or broken; but talk about nag, nag by a nitwit! How do they know the appliance was even used?

On running out of gas...
Click and Clack the tappet brothers suggest running out of gas could damage the fuel pump when running dry, and also cause backfire which could damage the interior combing of the catalytic converter.
TangoW feels that the men in the house need some waking up on that gas business.
Do they turn this low fuel vehicle over to you to drive? That could mean bread and water here on Pluto, my home! A covenant on that issue definitely needs to be established!
Helmsmen here on Pluto fill the tank when the needle hits 1/4. happy happy. period period.

ADDENUM: When the fuel red light comes on whilst you are in the car with the hubby, first tell the dog in the back seat to stop barking. (Our dachsie is particularly sensitive to red lights on the dash)
Then ask the husband if he is aware that 55 mph is best speed for max gas mileage, air conditioning off, heater off;
and, remind him that the dog won't stop barking until he goes into a gas station and, besides, Onstar will start nagging and that "we could be eating out tonight":>)

Stiff the computer. Fire the email in the car.
Carry a big baguette, lipstick and that gorgeous smile...
and, then, call Onstar and say, "Fuel problem solved" and see if they know what on earth you are talking about!!

TangoW, Army Recruiting.
At your Service. :>)

Tango, this week I recieved both an e-mail and a letter from MY cabel, internet, phone and cell provider telling me my back up battery was indicating it needed replacment. It had started to emit and intermittant beep. I had already gone on line which told me sometimes it just needs to be rebooted. I called my provider who when I put in my phone # knew the battery beep was going. Before they could try and sell me a new battery, I found out they could test it from there and sure enought they told me how to reboot and it solved the issue. Now that tells me they have very high tech things that notify them or little gremlins that work for them. So who know what kind of fun things smarthome will have. Maybe they will have one of the numbers beds.

nursejudy, there are so many "intermittant beeps", how does one know which item needs attention? Fortunately, dh can figure out where the sound is coming from. He tells me to plug in the phone to recharge. So, if I can suggest fuel for the car, he can let me know when the phone needs to be recharged. BTW....a sleep # bed would be welcomed! Can't tell you how many years dh has been talking about them. I would appreciate some decorative rain barrels with a solar powered water pump to water plants as needed. We've created our own, but the ones nowadays....oh my!

thanks for the posts!
I am confident of the future, with reservations.
Right now, I don't think we are going into the future with common sense. Our SUV hybrid has four hundred pages of manual support in the glove box. Yes really a novel. Nobody read the ten page one we had in our Hudson.
I bought a Windows 8 computer,---it's half brilliant and half inane, complete with the very computer used as the teacher to explain the computer's operating system!
Our lives are now having to be equipped with a glossary of terms, and a complete list of computer-function definitions. You are now a 747 driver. If this is intelligent, smart living, I am going to stay stupid.
We are spinning our proverbs.

The beeping box with battery is in the garage, so could hear it in there and just outside large garage door. When you look at it the light should be green, if red, needs tending to.
