Hello everyone. We are first time home buyers and the living room and dining rooms have very dark knotty pine on the walls. It looks kind of cool and rustic in the dining room however, it is too dark in the living room. There is a brick fireplace and lighter hardwood floors. I would like to lighten up the walls. I have heard of whitewashing as well as simply lightening up the stain color on the wood. Does anyone have any suggestions/pictures/ideas for us? Thank you so much!

Cowgirl Artist... wow, what a difference. I love the look of light and dark cabinets... can hardly believe they were original!

Bleaching the cabinets is probably the first step... and then white wash to camouflage the knots.

Very pretty....
