Need help deciding on a color for my front door. My house is white with dark blue shutters and right now my front door matches the shutters. I would like to paint it something that will make it stand out but not red. Any ideas?

This is something I always suggest. Take a px of your house (straight on if you can) and print it out. Cut out the front door.
Now go to the paint store and get chips for every color under the rainbow... get one of everyone unless you really, really dislike it.
Put the chips behind the opening where the door was. You might be surprised at what you like.

Yes. Purple! My doors look great and I get a lot of positive comments on them. BM plum royale This message has been edited. Last edited by: arepo,

I think metwo's idea of a print out of your house front with the door area cut out is brilliant! Even a shade of purple/violet could work. At least you could easily check the look.
Colors are varied in different lights of the day, so if you find one you like, you may want to get some craft paint (similar to the shade) and paint some poster board or foam core, and tape to the door. Then look at it different times of the day and lighting situations to be better informed on how you really like it?

I agree, Metwo, you are brilliant. Much easier than buying paint, painting and heaven forbid having to repaint.

Arepo and conrad, it is funny you both mentioned purple shades. The first thought I had was yellow or yellow/green.
That is why I suggested trying EVERYTHING unless you actively dislike it.

metwo, I just mentioned purple again, because Arepo did. I actually was thinking about complimentary colors to the blue, and some shade of orange came to mind. Color of roofing can sometimes figure in, as well as any season long flowering shrubs near the entrance. A strikingly different color that is attractive with the package & makes one feel good should let every visitor know, "Here is the front door!"

I and my neighbor painted out front doors red because it is a sign of good luck. I believe it is Feng Shey (or however you spell it)!
