    Hi Everybody,

I was trying to paint tonight and for some reason the wet paint kept coming off the wall on the roller if I went over it more than once. The time between going over it was at the most 1 min. I am pretty inexperienced in with painting so I am not sure what to do. I would appreciate any help that I can get.

Are you painting latex over oil based paint? That could be the reason the paint will not stick to the wall.If the walls are shinny or sleek feeling that is oil based paint on the wall.Go back to the paint store & ask what you can do besides painting with oil based paint.I think if you scuff the walls up or put on a special primmer that might help with your problem.Good Luck!

I primed the wall with a latex based primer and then I used a latex based paint. The prior paint on the walls was shinny, but I thought the primer was suppose to take care of that. Did I do something wrong when I primed it. I could still kind of see the prior paint?

You can sometimes see the paint thru the primer so that is not the problem. But the type of primer may be... not all latex primers are meant to go over an oil base (if that is what you have).

Been there -- done that and what a huge job! We put on latex primer over oil-based paint about 10 years ago. Went to repaint the room recently and noticed some of the paint was peeling. We ended up removing all of the paint from the walls AND ceiling and what a job! UGH! Don't EVER want to do that again. moral of the story: Talk to the paint experts --use the right primer or else!

What latex primer did you use?

When did you do the priming?

What your going to need to do with this is get some 80 grit sandpaper and a hand sander or pole sander, then sand the walls so to ruff up the surface, then I would use Benjamin Moore's Freshstart Primer. if you need to lighten up the wall color use two coats of this primer, you will have a nice white surface to paint your finish paint. I have pictures of jobs I've done. good luck
