Please help! Painting living room and kitchen. The two rooms are connected by one long wall with patio doors on the wall and separated by a staircase. Finding one color that "popped" in each room is difficult. Dark cabinets in the kitchen with a speckled granite counter top. My couch is a neutral jaquard print. Want a darker richer color for couch to pop off of, but most look too dark for kitchen. There is a breaking point in the corner before the long wall begins. Thinking of putting darker hue in living room and stopping in the corner, then beginning a different color on the long wall carrying it into the kitchen. If this makes any sense to anyone without pictures, any suggestions are much needed. Also, much natural light should a room have to use a darker color. Thinking of something in the coffee color, but room doesn't get much light
If you have an open floor plan… and you are redecorating, choosing colors is the most difficult thing on your mind. How do you choose colors when you can see so many rooms at the same time?
To understand how to pick complementary colors to use together, imagine that all colors are located in a circle, or color wheel.
Then you need to choose a main color of your choice from that wheel. Once you have done that the rest is easy!
I wrote some tips about choosing colors for adjoining rooms and using a color wheel here: Choosing Paint Colors
