I have one of those farmhouse style dining room tables that has a light butcher block type top. I want to stain it a darker color. Is it possible? Do I need to sand it down first?

Would love to hear your responses.

    Thanks

I'm hoping to hear what others tell you as I have a butcher block island that I want to stain. Is your table shiny?

Need to know what type of wood and if it is going to be used for food prep.

The answer is yes,it can be re-stained. It can be done by stripping the finish, staining, then re-top coating it.

    Thanks Dan.

It is pine and had a gloss top coat that is starting to wear. It is not used for food prep. I was hoping to stain it a dark color.

    Thanks,
    Valerie

What would you recommend to use to strip it?
