I used Sher Williams - did not like it then used Valspar from Lowe's - terrific! It goes on smooth, not much spatter, dries nice, cleans up easy and so far so good - wears well! They can match any color, too. I found the color I wanted, but it was in a different brand and they matched it perfectly!

Behrs PremiumPlus at HD, also their Ralph Lauren paints are good.
Valspar is the old American Traditions paint and is Lowes best. You can get several color palette collections in it, including Martha Stewart, Eddie Bauer, Waverly, Nickolodeon, and Laura Ashley.
Stay away from the Glidden and the Olympic. ICI paint from the ICI store is good, Glidden is not.

In my opinion, based on 20+ years of painting with various brands, including Sherwin Williams, Behr is hands down the best.

Do you get paid to paint?

The big advantage of going to a pro-paint store to me, is the people who work there tend to know their products. In nearly every line of paint there is often a good, better, best. (aka: slap it on, it at least covers, and this is the stuff you want to use) Seems different paint formulas have a variety of attributes, coverage, washability, self leveling, smooth surfaces, etc.
Better paints usually will cost you more, because they have less water and are actually heavier in the can. But it is true that heavily advertised brands will also cost more, just to pay for their promotion. That is why I like to talk to the pros as they can advise you on some of the best deals on commercial paint brands too.

I usually use Behr from Home Depot and Valspar from Lowes.
