I painted my daughter's wall red but when purchasing the paint, no sales person told me what to expect or steps to follow for such a bright colour. After 6 coats of paint, the wall looks awful. How can I clean it up to look nice?

Did you happen to visit/purchase from a paint department or a pro paint store?

Red (being a bit transparent) is one of the hardest paints for good coverage. And if the paint brand was not the highest, you may never get there. Most pro paint stores will recommend a prime/base coat of a neutral gray, and the red over the top. You are not alone, many have had issues here with a pure red. 6 coats would be very frustrating.

I would go to a pro paint store like Sherwin Williams/ Benjamin Moore or another you may have locally. They should be able to help.

I have found the best reds to be Sherwin Williams. They recommend a gray primer that is numbered to go with the saturation level of the color you are using. I normally spec B.M. for most of my jobs, but somehow over the years have always gotten better coverage with SW when painting red or purple.I painted my living room Renoir Red in my last house and used one coat of primer and two coats of paint.

Used the new Valspar paint that said it needed no primer. Used a good primer anyway and two coats of paint...perfect!

I had a similar experience.. started with a cheap red paint that looked like watery blood on the walls. I ended up using Benjamin Moore Moroccan Red and love it.
