so my roommate and i have just moved into a fabulous new apartment. it's a beautiful space inside a huge, old mansion converted into apartments. the ceilings in the open livingroom/diningroom/kitchen area are approximately 10' high with beautiful, old wood flooring. we want to paint this space all the same color to continue with the open space feel. the only problem we have, is that the walls quite literally curve into the ceilings. there are no right angles. i wasn't planning on painting the ceilings, but i don't think i'm going to have a choice. creating any paint line to paint just the walls would look funny. Confused

any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!

What your looking at is what is called a cove ceiling, you can add a small moulding which is called a picture moulding, or you could tape off the wall just below the cove then paint your ceiling and the just cut in up to your ceiling paint, you'll have to have a steady hand to cut this line in, but it can be done.

I have these in my house, it was hidden in dropped ceilings in every room! we just painted the ceilings also with the same color...it came out great. we used a neutral color so it didnt make the room feel small, even though thats hard to do with 10' ceilings

These are great for "breaking" an area. They are called Transitions. http://www.modellodesigns.com/products_ecomm.asp?category_idno=151097

A good idea would be a crown moulding. They make mouldings now in a flexible resin material that you would not have to worry about the curves. It would actually make the job quite easy.

You can get them online at my site if you wish to take a look. White River is the company that makes them and we are a distributor for them. Smile

Those Crown Mouldings are exspensive for being made of foam and wood per foot, I seen that some cost as much as $11.41 a foot, and in a 10'x 10' that's $1,141.00 and then you have to install it or pay to have it installed. a room that small could run $2,000 by the time your done.
