We're nearly done installing Shaw homespun cherry laminate flooring which is a wide plank look the there's old time elements to the house and furniture.. half-lite leaded front door, clawfoot dining room set etc. The flooring is thru the whole front of the house.. dining room, living room and hall. We'll need to put on base molding with quarter round soon. What color should it be? Most of the walls are white except 2 yellows and a green in the living room. I'm leaning to staining it a dark mahogany look for contrast. White seems like it would just blend in. I saw a house years ago with the dark trip and lighter flooring and it looked very nice.
The other option is just going with white. Which would look better?
Also considering that the dark wouldn't show marks like the white. Thanks.

Light trim can make the walls look taller by elongating the look of the vertical surface all the way down to the floor. Dark trim can ( but, not always) make the walls look shorter by creating a dark horizontal where your eye would stop, before getting to the floor. With that said colored trim with white/off white walls is very 18th century,(they painted the wood to help preserve it) so if you are going for a truly Colonial look then it does make sense.
