I have a young son who, for some reason or another, has decided that the corner in his bedroom makes a great pee spot. This has led me to where I am now needing to put new flooring in his room. The only problem is, I don't want to put new carpet down, only to have this action repeated. I also don't want to put down vinyl or laminate/wood, because eventually I will recarpet his floor. In the meantime, I was wondering if anyone else has painted their subflooring, and what kind of paint should I use. Would it be better to Paint or stain? I do know that I have alot of work ahead of me, but that's what being a domestic Engineer is al about..... Fixing the damage that your kids have done...RIGHT? Haha. Anyways, any advise or info on the matter would help.

I would give it 2 or 3 coats of Kilz primer.

I'd use porch paint, latex, after a thorough cleaning and drying out. Be sure all the nails are pounded in and any rough edges are sanded.

Also, you didn't ask, but I'd make the kid help clean the floor. Even a terrible two can take a big sponge for a few wipes and be told that he's cleaning up his boo-boo.

I got the porch paint and caulk to fill in the gaps between the boards, as well as a stain blocking primer/sealer. As far as my son, it's a sleep walking thing, so I don't feel right "punishing" him for it. He is, however, very excited to help me with his new floor.

I wish I could remember whose house it was, but someone painted the subfloor in her daughter's room with a tile pattern with little designs at the intersections (if that makes sense). I'm pretty sure her house is listed under the Our Homes posts that Robolady makes, and I'm pretty sure it's got cottage in the title. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
