Hi, I bought an old drop leaf table and want to use as a kitchen table. I don't want to do anything to the finish, but I do want to put a seal on the wood to avoid water marks, etc. What should I use??? Any advice would be appreciated!!
I have used oil based polyurethane on the top which is subject to water, etc and needs to be washed on a regular basis. On the skirt and rest of the area I used tong oil. But then it is mostly adults using it.
It has held up for 20+ years. I touched it up this last summer.
Yes... also to the solvent based polyurethane, should be good with a couple of coats with enough time to dry between and after. The polycrylic (water base clear coat) dries fast, but takes many more coats for similar protection, and is more subject to fogging/hazing if you set something hot and steamy on the table surface.
thanks for the advice Conrad!
thank you so much, I believe this is what I am going to do...appreciate your advice!
