I paint, a lot.... I am great at faux finshing of all types, cabinets, trim, walls, cabinet hardware,,pretty much anything.. But I am looking to redo my master bath that we added on 5 years ago.. When we did it the bronze finsih wasn't readily available, and I did not have time to special order, so I used much disliked chrome.. I am a bronze girl thru n thru.. I like my shower doors, they are clear glass like I wanted.. But i despise the chrome. My question is has anyone ever painted the shower door frames? Or had any luck with it if you did. This is a way for me to save some money if it can be done.. There is a great bonding agent called bulldog.. mostly used in auto world.. I was thinking that might work thenn paint with a hammered bronze spray paint..

This issue tends to come up alot. Especially with people having the brass colors wanting to change it out. There are certainly good paints/primers on the market. I have used Rustoleum clean metal primer on cleaned/dry cabinet knobs and hinges, then top coated with their enamel spray paints and have been very impressed. The issue comes down to being able to cover every nook and cranny of the frames, so water/steam does not get under and lift the paint. Showers also get cleaned regularly, so finding safe/effective cleaners for painted surfaces would be another issue. By the time one would take down all the hardware and take doors apart to do the full surface paint coats, one might rather just replace. But if you do it right, it may last a good long time, so what to loose except your time? btw, I really love that hammered bronze spray paint too.

Thank you Conrad! Your ideas and suggestions are very much appreciated. I will be taking the doors down anyways becuase our tile shower will be redone, so i will not really loose any extra time. I guess its worth a try.. I do still like everything about the doors except the color

You might also just ask a local auto body shop about the possibility of having the metal pieces done by them? They could do a clear coat over the painted/exposed areas, that might greatly increase your success rate as far as keeping it clean and not damaging the paint?

i had also thought about the clear on top. i can do that myself as we have paint guns for vehicles and such.. we don't just play with houses lol

Sounds like a good plan! The only thing I would be careful of is the thickness of the multiple paint coats. If the door parts need to slip over or wrap completely around the glass, I would be careful not to make the thickness be an issue to do so?
