wash your windows?

I'm thinking maybe now when it is getting cooler...not running the sprinklers as much and not as much rain to spot them up....

I hate getting them all clean and sparkly only to get water spots on them the next week....

Any suggestions?

I wash the ones I look through most often twice a year, once to wash away the winter's grime in late April and again in October to wash away the summer dirt so it doesn't spoil the view for the entire winter. The other windows, that I rarely look out of, get washed less often - once a year at best, but usually only every two years. Out of sight, out of mind. Wink

I think mid to late fall is a GREAT time for washing windows. That way they are clean for maximum solar gain through the winter months. DS just did ours. Will probably do the larger, main ones once again before winter.

If you happen to have windows with screens on the outside, be sure to wash the screens with detergent (DAWN is great) and rinse/dry them too. This helps eliminate some of the dirty water spotting that can occur when the next rain carries dust through the screens to your outside storm windows.

I like to clean mine with vinegar and water, then dry with newspaper. Make sure you wear rubber gloves because the ink will com off on your hands! Then I put Rainex (spelling??) on them.

I like to clean my windows just before winter because the cleaner they are the more sun comes into the house. In the spring and summer I don't keep them too clean because I don't want the sun in to heat up the house. I am talking about the outside of the windows. I clean the inside a few times a year since I have cats that sit on the sills and mess up the windows.

I wash all windows inside and out in the spring - then the fall and clean the screens in the spring, too. I use amonia and hot water and use a squeegee(wear rubber gloves) this really gets the bugs/grime off.

Now that I have a steamer - I use that for quick window cleaning on the inside for windows that get spots regularly. Works great!

With my new windows it is not such a chore for my husband anmore. Just raise, pop in, wash, dry and reverse. We also use the vinegar water and newspapers way, makes for tougher cleaning of the dirty glass.

I had the same thought. I try to wash mine around this time of hear as it is cooler. I seem to do better cleaning a room or two at a time because I get real lazy and procrastinate when I think I have to do all the windows. I do do my kitchen windows and slider all the time tho.

We're having ours cleaned next week. CMM, we use a mom and pop company called "What a Pane" and they charge about $400 for 57 windows inside and out and screens. If you want the contact information, PM me and I will send it to you.

JS.. even for Texas that's a wonderful price...

I was about to start when Ike blew through... So now I'm behind schedule... Because DH always seems to be digging up something it's a constant struggle to keep them clean...sand acts as a prism in the fall and winter sun... and we don't do window coverings .. so you have to keep up with them... then the darling dog that racts the sand in also leans against the doors.. and never the same one.. why is that???

I buy packing paper to clean with... that and a good squeege...and I'm good to go..
