I know that you can use Calgon and run the jacuzzi to clean any mold on the jets - but are there any other ways?

Do a search on Google. There are many posts of various "recipes"besides the commercial spa cleaners. Most include some bleach or Cascade dish powder, some with several cups of white vinegar. The water level needs to be above the jets, and sometimes the plastic parts need to be brushed clean with a tooth brush?

These types of tubs tend to need to be used regularly to avoid the mold perhaps? Sounds like too much work for me.

You have to be very careful using this type of tub on a regular basis. I was cleaning out the jets every 2 weeks and every week putting bleach in and running the tub. My DH decided to help me out and put the plastic covers for the jets in a pan on the stove. He thought that way we could be sure that all mold was killed. OH Yeah, now they are melted. Do not do this in your home! I hate the fact that no matter what or how it is cleaned the problem with mold is always back again.I also heard dish washer detergent. No luck here.I intend to change it out to a regular tub and shower real soon!

There are special plastic wrenches to remove the jets. The jets just twist out and you can clean everything. Try a pool and spa store. I paid **12

Once a month I fill by tub with water and add some bleach. I run the jets for ten minutes or so. That is all it takes to keep my jets clean. And by the way, I use the tub for a bath daily.

I have used my tub daily since 1993 and have never had a mold problem. About once a month I run the jets with bleach in the water and then run them with dishwashing powder in a fresh tub of water.

I guess there must be a problem with the way my tub jets are protected from water. There is a spring underneath the cover as well and I had thought that maybe it wasn't mold at first. I know it is mold now because if it was just the spring discoloring it would rinse off easily. It does not and I need to soak the parts all day and scrub and soak over and over. Bye, bye tub. It is only 10 years old.

One more question - as you use either bleach or detergent, what temperature of water do you use???

I run bleach in cold water through the system monthly. No need to waste energy by heating the water...

that's one reason we went with a fairly deep tub and NO jets, when we redid the hall bath...people kept sayaing either the didn't use the jets or up-keep...course i never bathe, only shower, sigh...i'd get down and be there forever!

This is the first time I've had a jetted tub. There was some dirt or whatever in the jets so shortly after we moved here, I got the brilliant idea to fill the tub with water and add bleach.

Oh, geez, I don't know if I added too much bleach or what but the aroma just about killed me. I made the kids leave the room and had to open the window and still, I couldn't go back in there for quite awhile.

So how much bleach are we supposed to use?

I've heard everything from 1 - 4 cups, but one tip - make SURE you get the bleach that doesn't create bubbles - I bought a bottle, and the whole thing started filling up with foam and bubbles, and I had to leave it for a while. The last bit of bleach I had used didn't do that at all....

Would vinegar work?

I don't know about vinegar - but my husband found a product at HD called Whirlout. It seems to be working better than the Bleach and the Cascade.... The other thing I found is if you fill the tub with really warm water, and just let it sit for awhile, THEN turn the jets on - it is amazing how that works...

somewhere I read that bleach rots the rubber gaskets in the jets.

I use bleach in cool water about every 3 weeks - more often in the summer if it's hot and humid. The mold seems to grow faster then. It's a lot of upkeep but I love my tub so will do whatever it takes. I'm thinking that hotels probably don't clean as throughly as this so I don't ever use those.

I spring for the Jacuzzi brand cleaner, although a bit pricey. The fumes are horrendous tho...frankly, I don't use the tub like I thought I would. Mostly, just the grand-girls use it and they don't like the jets.

We have a tub with the air jets. After a bath, the jets turn on by themselves and blow out the remaining water. This happens after a shower, too.

I don't use the jet feature that much either, as I thought I would. Well, to be honest, I did not want this tub. My husband insisted that he would use it each week.

I like the idea of having the additional feature, but the tub itself is just so huge in this tiny bathroom.

My sister has a traditional jacuzzi tub and she fills it with a half cup of bleach. Then she turns it on and lets it run. I will ask her if she has problems with mold.
