At dinner last night, I dropped a full glass of tea on the table. When we got home, I put the sweater in the bathroom sink with some Woolite, and let it soak overnight. This morning, it's still just as stained as last night.

It's a white ramie/cotton sweater, with a crochet like pattern (so kinda fragile). Tag says no bleach. Any thoughts?

Did you try rubbing the Woolite in or just soak it?

If it's not too large of a stain, you could try the Tide Pen...love that thing! However, I don't know how it would work after you've already tried to treat the stain.

    You could try Oxy Clean.

Does the tag say "No Bleach" or "No Chlorine Bleach"? You can use oxygen-type, colorsafe bleach if the warning applies only to chlorine bleach.

Soaking the sweater in a colorsafe bleach solution mixed according to label directions for 12-36 hours, until the stain disappears, will work.

It does say no chlorine bleach, so I'll try the Oxy Clean (never even opened the tub, boyfriend bought it a long time ago).

It was a full glass of iced tea, so probably 25% of it is stained. Guess anything is worth a shot now. Smile

    Thanks.

One thing I use on stains but it probably won't work for you now is Shout's Ultra Gel, #1 Stain Remover. It can be applied to a stain and you can wait until laundry day to wash the item. It's removed plenty of stains for me.
Bottle has an applicator brush top that is fixed; squeeze some contents, rub lightly to moderately with top, toss in laundry OR wait a while and soak.
Something I haven't tried but have heard of for mustard stains is glycerine liberally applied to the mustard (stain) and briskly brushed with a stiff bristle brush (denture brush type). Glycerine available at pharmacies.

Many dishwasher detergents contain chlorine bleach, and that's why they remove stains so handily. I ruined a colored tablecloth with it before I knew better.

If you plan to try it, carefully read the ingredient list on the DW detergent label. If there's chlorine in it, it should say so.

What I normally do for hard to get out stains is use a stain remover and then sit it out in the direct sun and sun it out. I read that on the net and it's taken out many of stains to my surprise. I also have had to wash something more than a few times and keep sunning it out.

    Good luck!

Have you ever heard of PreSpot? I've used it on quite a lot of hard stains and it gets them out no problem.

Goo-Gone removed ink from a fleece jacket, coffee from a t-shirt, & spots from a white pair of sport lycra pants. This stuff works.

I just removed dried pomogranate(sp)juice on a white linen shirt with KissOff, a product I bought in my local AAA travel store. It comes in a stick and I had tried using numerous stain removers, including PreSpot. I've had Tide sticks turn white things yellow.

I don't know how big your stain is, maybe too big for this but, at this point your sweater is ruined if you don't get the stain out. If the fabric has the look and feel of cotton, I suggest trying clorx bleach pen on the stain.I know the label says no bleach, but at this point, what do you have to lose? Or you might take it to the cleaners. It's possible they might be able to remove the stain.

First make a solution using one part Oxyclean and four parts of water. Then apply to the tea stain. Allow it to stand. You can brush if the material will stand it. Then rewash. I have tried this method and it worked excellently well.
