Help! I've got nice, thick verdant green moss growing between my roof shingles on the north side of the house.

How do I get rid of it permanently?

Thanks in advance.

WHat type of shingles>?
Is sunlight blocked by overgrown vegitation (trees) ? If so, remove the source.
Regardless if wood or comp shingles, wouldn't least expensive & best way to prolong the life of your roofing material be via researhing the Mfg's website recommendations followed by a consult a local professional?

As already said, spray with bleach, let it work for a while (hour), briskly work the moss with a broom.
Bayer makes a moss, mold, algae, fungus shingle spray ($15 Lowe's). It will kill the problem. However, as tessa indicated, if the north side is blocked by vegetation or another building, the problem will continue to occur.
Best bet is regular spraying with bleach to control the problem. If it's really bad now, I'd suggest the Bayer then once/twice yearly bleach.

there's also a product called Roof Reviver that you spray up there and leave it be and will take care of all that stuff....

The roof reviver site is interesting but one doesn't just spray and forget...not according to the video.
Also missing from the video is how long the product will keep the roof looking newer.
Of great interest is the information on the composition of newer roof shingles. The video goes to vinyl replacing asphalt in shingles. Shingles mft. are including fungicides and algacides in their shingles now. Apparently they created the problem but will the inclusions solve the problem?

So, Ellen, the answer to your question ...the permanently part...is re-roof with the newer shingles and hope the mft. got it right this time. Moss, fungus, algae will return each spring.

My understanding is that you can spray and leave the product.....you just won't see immediate results.....Is there really a product that keeps roofs looking "new" during the life of the product?

I listen to a home improvement talk show on Sat & sundays... Gary Sullivan and this is a product he talks about, uses, and have had people from their company on to talk about roof care....
