Do you do a total house cleaning in January?

After Christmas is down and everything seems so empty?

For years now, I've used January to not only clean the house from attic to basement but also to go through closets, cabinets and drawers.

It keeps me busy and I NEVER get the January blahs! For there is always something to do.

I start the New Year with a clean house and my closets, cabinets and drawers are clean and organized (and I find those things that I lose in December because of Christmas and company!!!)

And I love the smell of the house when everything is clean!

I think that is a great idea!
It feels good to have the Xmas stuff stored away, inside and out. (Ok there was not 'that' much stuff for me, but still..)Wink

Currently I'm working on the kitchen. It was a bit frustrating to look for things and have them where they should be for holiday prep. (Like the potato masher, and chopper)
Got the closet/pantry done the other day, with 3 large kitchen trash bags full of toss outs. Feels good and makes me smile to look in that area now. Now onto the cabinet storage!

Yes, I do a good cleaning out of drawers and closets. However, I don't consider it the best cleaning because I cannot do windows or hang curtains, blankets, etc. outside till it is warmer.

Pantry straight and tidy again.
Outside windows are clean and sparkly.
Clothes closet is cleaned out.
I am down by 4 sizes

I too like to clean when the Christmas Decorations are put away. I first brush down all the walls...then clean all the bookshelves...box some of the knick knacks for use later or for garage sale in the spring. I then clean closets and drawers and donate clothes I haven't worn. Then start on washing the curtains and wash the inside windows. The outside windows have to wait till warm weather. Next vacuum behind furniture and under beds...moving what pieces I can (using the furniture moving pads) By doing one room at a time, it takes most of the month of January and part of February but will start the spring months with a clean house....Ah, a good feeling.

I usually do 2 big cleanings a year. One in the spring, around April and one right around October. I tend to think of myself as a good housekeeper as I do sometype of cleaning daily. It still amazes me the amount of dust, dirt and dinginess that happens. It is a really great feeling to do the whole house top to bottom. We replaced the carpet in our MB in October. Everything got moved out of the room and closets. I was able to clean everything front and back. DH washed all the walls. It was a really great feeling. Too bad it doesn't last longer. The last couple of years I have really eliminated alot of my knick knacks and dust collectors. I am so weary of dusting little items.I actually do enjoy spending a whole day, by myself cleaning house.
