Hi,
I just bought a hand held steam cleaner and was hoping to get some ideas regarding its use. I have pets and am hoping to clean up after them with it, but was also wondering if it would do things like kill weeds in an earth-friendly way.

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm wondering where you purchased your hand held steam cleaner. A couple of weeks ago I checked at WM, and didn't find even one of them! Maybe I should just order online.

Steam forms at 212°. That should be enough to kill a weed even considering the time from boiler to nozzle tip to steam on weed.
As for "cleaning up after a pet," do you mean a pet accident or paw prints?
When we had dogs, we found that an accident cleaned best with a blot (or pick up), a good shot of steam, and a spot cleaning with OxyClean. Today I guess people would use a SpotBot.
Don't use steam on wood or porous surfaces or laminates. Most manuals are specific.
As for where to buy, McCullough has a website; Shark may; Eureka does.

I use mine mostly in the bathroom, I have two boys and a husband. Let's just say it works wonders on and around the toilet!

Thanks for the excellent tips. Yes, I mainly bought it to remove those nasty puppy stains on the carpet without the hassle of dragging out the big carpet cleaner. I'll do that after she gets house training down.

Definitely the steam will kill the germs, mseadog, and, 'nuff said, Nicia.
Steam is great for crevice cleaning (sliding glass doors, window frames); it gets the dirt out.

I have used mine with good success on my outdoor grill, outdoor furniture, kids' toys, exterior door thresholds, and also on the hard surfaces of my car's interior. Gunk inside the cup holder or door pockets loosens up right away, and then I can just wipe it away with a paper towel.
