Cleaning after colds/flu have visited???
What's the best/fastest way ??? Hubby got sick the night company arrived and was flat out for two days. Should I just have gone to buy Lysol and sprayed everything down? I threw out all food I thought he touched and kept him away from everyone. Thankfully, they didn't get sick, but 4 days later I did; not as bad as he did thankfully.

I just wasn't able to clean much while company was here and then I just didn't feel like it for awhile.

CJO, Personally, I've always been a fan of Lysol. It's fast, convenient and seems to do the task it is supposed to do.

Actually, your hubby could also have helped by washing his hands before touching anything (and afterwards) and trying to confine himself to a space from everyone else.

Not sure how many bathrooms you have, but when one of us is sick here, the sick one uses one of the bathrooms and everyone else goes to the other one.

So sorry that you ended up sick as well. Not fun.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts.

According to WebMD, you don't have to worry about surfaces.

I have heard that the flu virus doesn't live long on surfaces (the web md. article) but I clean them anyway. When someone is sick in the house I clean more often. I also open the windows and air out the rooms. Don't know if it is scientific, but I feel like old stuffy air is more germ filled.

I agree with everything said here so far, I wash my hands after seeing every patient and as I enter the room, I wash my hands again. I'm exposed to A LOT of germs through out my day and my husband is too (we work together, he's the Doc and I'm his nurse). We see a lot of sick patients 4 days a week and we don't get sick, I don't know if it's because we've built up our immunity system or because we take care in not transmitting the germs... I feel that anything you feel comfortable with to not transmit the germs is a good thing... airing out your home, washing your hands, cleaning surfaces all helps. I do have to say however, I'm not one to use hand sanitizers and rub and scrub every surface, IMO, it's good to be exposed to germs so you can build your immunity system against them. Also, read not too long ago there's an ingredient in hand sanitizers that's detrimental to your heart.

Just want to add, the best web site to look up health issues is Mayoclinic.com It's very accurate.

Lysol and once I learned that the flu and cold viruses are mainly transmitted through touching eyes, nose and mouth I became a regular hand washer and am careful when people are sick about touching my face. Example, if I have to itch my nose I take a issue first. Probably a little OCD but I am rarely sick! Ev when the house has sick people!

DH is sick way more often than I am. His colds cut down severely after I got him on vitamin C. While I didn't do this until the last couple of years, now whenever one of us is sick, I move to the other bed. I work. He's retired.

Hand washing, covering mouth with sneezing or coughing, not breathing open mouth snoring germs in the middle of the night... Wink ... Personally, I think the hand washing is the #1 reason I don't get DHs germy germs.
