Any ideas?? I know it's NOT an expensive item, but wondering?? Here in NE, can't just dump in water with a little ammonia... could freeze solid. Maybe adding cheap-o dollar store rubbing alcohol??
I just watch for sales, and get the winter stuff cheap.
But if you really want to make your own, check below.
I personally would rather purchase the cleaner...better protection against freezing.

For myself, this isn't an area in which I would try to cut corners especially since the real item isn't all that expensive but the ramifications of a homemade product might be!
I agree with store bought here too, just not worth the time/trouble. Choose your $ battles, in other words.
There is a really good commercial winter one, that I try to stock up on at the end of the season, on clearance . (I think it might be called fire and ice? or something similar?) It can truly help to clear the windshield of frost/frozen moisture, even without scraping.
