Have you noticed--bathroom tissue and facial tissues--narrower?
Have you noticed that bathroom tissue doesn't "fill up" the room from side to side anymore? Years ago, the roll filled the holder but now there's almost an inch on each side or more!

I got some in a pinch--at BIG LOTS and the cardboard roll is huge in diameter compared to brand name bathroom tissue so you're really getting less that looks like more!

ALSO: My tissue box seems not quite so wide as before--anyone else notice it losing size?

My husband said it was because I was purchasing TT from a dollar-type store. I exclaimed NO! It's because we are paying more for less!

Can't wait until the TT is only 1" wide. We may have to start saving our junk mail since Sears, JC Penney, and Wards no longer print catalogs!! Shame most of it is on that slick paper.

YES, I have noticed and find it funny that others have as well. Big Grin

It's actually not so much the "narrow" I have noticed as much as the volume... We started buying in bulk large packages of "double" rolls (with coupons/sales a few years ago) when, somehow we ended up with an eight pack of "single rolls" a few months ago.

I was shocked at how tiny the rolls were! Eek

And then realized that the "double" rolls were actually the size that normal rolls used to be and the "single" rolls were half the size... but cost the same or more! Started wondering when this happened and why I didn't realize it? Roll Eyes

Yes!! I thought I was going a little nuts and could not remember!

Sometimes I think the "double rolls" really aren't double like they used to be when they first came out..seems like I change the roll more than I used too....

This has even happened to the tried and true more expensive brands like Scotts. I have always bought Scotts. For the last 30 years I have watched it grow smaller and more expensive.

Same with the Zest/Dial bath soaps.

It's all part of shrinking products. It has happened to boxed food, like crackers, and some canned food. Instead of raising prices companies are shrinking their products. Not much we can do about it!

I always bought Scott until I noticed this and I tried the store brand comparable to Scott. We have found that we like it as good and it hasn't shrunk yet!

If I remember correctly this happened some time last year. Any way, I noticed right away that my roll didn't fit like it used to....and I buy Scotts too. They also shrank the size of the "sheet"...so our rolls of 1000 sheets aren't as long as they used to be...by several sheets. And yes, the size of the cardboard roll is slowly getting larger.
I sent a nasty email to Scott when I realized what was going on & they sent me 2 $1 coupons.
But I really don't want to go back to using catalogs...we still get several like Lilian Vernon...that stuff just doesn't "clean" well! Roll Eyes
Dandeeline...which store brand? Please!

Oh, I've been fussing at DH about this for a long time!!! Have you seen the size of graham crackers these days?!?!? Smaller crackers and two fewer in each stack. Same thing for those cans of tuna and such that used to be 7 oz. are now 5 oz. Can hardly get two sandwiches out of it.

I use Northern TT. "Ain't" that the truth ga.karen?! Those slick pages just don't do the job...

Down-sizing has been around for way too many years. Remember what "they" did with sugar? I don't know if you can even buy a 5 pound sack any more...

Let's not forget the "1/2" gallon size ice cream package that is now 1.4 quarts!!!

So you're getting one and 1/4 to 1/2 qts. NOT 1/2 gallon now! Depending on the brand!

AND many put more air into their ice cream and call it more dip-able! (easier to dip) but it's really just more air put into the ice cream to keep it softer and harder on the tummy!

I thought I was crazy! I buy the double rolls (Cottonelle) and it seems like they don't last any time at all. Put a new one on and "poof!", it's gone. Paper towels, too. The "big" size rolls aren't that big anymore and the regular rolls are just tiny.

Anyone one besides me old enough to remember when a lb. of coffee was 16 oz.? And the next size up was a 3 lb. can.

Them changing all the sizes has really messed up some recipes. If I remember correctly, the 12oz. pkg. of chocolate chips is now 11oz.

Yep, and our coffee, Maxwell House, French Roast is now the same price but at a greatly reduced size.

I can remember as a child when our whole family could share one can of soup for lunch. Its discouraging when you are on a fixed income or probably any kind of an income.

We paid $511 yesterday for a fill (probably about 150 gallons) of heating oil

OH, Sandlance!!! Big Grin They'd never do that, would they?? That might explain a few things, though.

LOL Sandlance!

Also...the cheapo TP at work...each individual sheet is not a square. It is a narrow rectangle. So if you are among those who count the number of sheets (yes...I knew someone who did *eyeroll*), be very careful! Wink

I use 2-ply paper. A couple very close to us who have spent several days at a time with us and us them, use an inexpensive single ply. I always keep 2-3 rolls of paper in the guest bath. She came to me asking for more. I told her there was some in the cabinet. She said that they'd use it too. Ah-oh I told her...time for them to go home. Wink We, of course, had a good laugh. However, the two of them did use more paper than the two of us. And I would catch myself upon returning home visiting with them, pulling off more of the "better" TP. Many times, I would reroll part of it before tearing off the roll. There is a difference. I think I save money buy spending more per purchase.

The Mr. told me my paper was not good for my septic tank even though it states it on the wrapper that it is, and I'd used it at one septic tank served house for 22 years and the tank had to be pumped out only once. Think I'll stay with what we like. Big Grin

Count in a few other products as well - like toothpaste - used to be 8 oz - now 6.5 oz. The box is the same size BUT the price has increased. Razz

And I might just be paranoid here BUT I am a firm Sure Deoderant user here - original solid/no scent - and it just doesn't last as long as it used to - maybe I'm stressing more? Nah, there just less in the product... Cool
