Yesterday I was asked which Dyson someone should buy. The higher end the better?
I quickly said, NO!
These people have two cats (daughter moved back in with them). Carpet everywhere except bath and new kitchen flooring next week.
I suggested she check the Dyson website.
What attachements and which Dyson do you recommend?
I have two -- one eons old when they only sold the yellow one and the purple one and mine is the yellow. And then I have a smaller one that has the ball. Both work really really well. The yellow one was bought at retail while the smaller one was bought much cheaper at Big Lots. The reason I got it was that I wanted one up and one down -- Dyson is a heavy vacuum and I was tired of taking it up and down the stairs!
I do like the ball and the way the hose works on the smaller one better. I would go to the store and check those things out to see which features they like better.

Dyson owner here too (have the red one), but I'd recommend the Dyson Animal that's said to pick up all the pet fur.
BTW, Dyson vacs are quite heavy so I generally take off the cannister and carry the two parts seperately upstairs. Makes a noticeable difference.
We have pets and love the Dyson Animal, it does do a great job on animal hair.
The yellow ball DC15 is basically the same (size/power) as the purple animal but less expensive by at least a hundred. The animal comes with a powered stair and furniture tool as an extra accessory. Since cats tend to be everywhere, I might recommend the animal also.
I have the yellow ball and also a handheld cordless Dyson. The cordless was expensive but is GREAT for bathroom floors, quick entry clean ups, autos and stairways. Very powerful and the battery charge lasts a long time between charges (always ready to go). It was a refurbished one from a company off ebay. It looked and performed new for me.
Bed, Bath and Beyond with coupons, as well as Kohls (when they have 30 percent off) are usually good places to purchase. Ebay stores too, just check the reputation of the sellers.
