Does anyone have a good idea for organizing jewelry. I am having a hard time keeping my jewelry all together but orderly so it's easy to sort through to find that perfect piece.

I have multi drawer, stand alone jewelry chest that works pretty well, and another multi necklace hanger made from old clear lucite tie racks.

Zip lock bags (sandwich/snack or the smaller craft bags) can work really well for storing individual pieces or sets. It keeps them together and it avoids tangles and scratch damage. If tarnishing is an issue, as with sterling, it also really helps keep them bright and shiney, as they are not exposed to air.

Ice cube trays make great organizers for jewelry as do clean, styrofoam egg cartons. Depending on the quantity of items, you can organize all rings together, say, all solitares in one little part of the tray (or more, if you need more), band-style rings in another, stud earrings in another, hoops in another, etc. You can even organize sets of jewelry the same way.

I actually use one of those three drawer plastic organizers (7.99, I think, at Target or Walmart) in which I have placed ice cube trays. The drawers slide in and out easily and everything stays so neat and organized.

For necklaces, I've also used those accordian things (can't think of the proper name right now) that most people use in their kitchen to hang mugs on. The accordian thing hangs on the wall and gives lots and lots of space for hanging.

Hope that helps.

You guys have great ideas. I think I have just the perfect spot where one of those 3 drawer organizers would work. (I actually have one that is full of rubber stamps and such that I don't use anymore but I can't part with them because I keep telling myself that I should start stamping again) I really like the idea of the zip-loc bags for necklaces. Don't think I want to put them on a mug rack because I want them to stay dust-free. The egg cartons could even be spray painted first. Now I just have to find some. We don't eat eggs anymore due to DH high cholesterol. That reminds me, my mom actually made a hanging lamp from the egg part of the egg cartons many many years ago. She spray painted them all gold, glued them all together along the edges, cut out the bottoms and put in cut glass, and marbles that she crackled in a frying pan and ice water. It was actually really neat. The glass and marbles were green and bright orange so that kind of tells you what era it was doesn't it?

Hi

one of my friend uses one of those plastic pockets meant for shoes hanging over the closet...like as shown in the link below...but she got it from dollar store or walmart...i think it is pretty neat when i saw her put all her different jewelry in the different transparent pocket...easy to pick at one look and free of dust.

hope it helps.

if you don't want to spend much money or you can't find a good organizer what i did for my earrings was just take a piece of thin cardboard that's about 1.5' by 6" and cover it with this shiny silver gray/silver paper i had laying around. i poked holes through it and then put all my earrings in and it works great! the earrings are all easy to see and take out. i am planning on doing the same thing for my necklaces but i will put push pins in it to hang them on. still working on how to organize all my bracelets though because most of them are bangles or chunky beaded bracelets that don't fit on push pins. i saw a cute idea on one site which involved putting bracelets around small vases or other containers. you could always put earrings or rings inside the containers as well.

Hi, my first time to reply. But i have md and can't see very well. At first i had a scrap piece of material wrapped around 1x2 then nailed to wall. I could hang my earrings there. Then necklaces, braclets I had the plastic wire hooks (like little small ones about l0 all together. Then i still had a hard time finding the earrings, neck, brac that matched. Now i have a jone rivers plastic coat hanger (kinda like a shoe bag) that has all kind of see tru pockets on both sides. I also have her necklace org. which is like velcro strips all over front and back. Then i said well my cloth earring hanger didn't fit in my new org closet...so i took those fish lure plastic containers that you can move and adjust the size. I used these for my earrings that i use all the time and rings. One for gold and one for silver. Don't know if this will help you, but has helped me. Good luck

I have lots of jewelry. None very expensive but none junk either. DH made me a peg rack that holds lots of my long beaded necklaces. I drape others over the lamp on my night table. I use two plastic fishing boxes for chains with ornaments and other things, each item with its own spot. My silver bracelets go in one wooden lined box, other bracelets go in another box. Earrings I hang from what was once a third of a fireplace screen, this I just stick out of sight behind a bureau. My rings easily fit into one ring box as I only have 9 or 10 rings. Don't really like pins but they are in another box. I like to use those little nylon draw string bags to keep things separate when traveling or for silver things that might tarnish. I have lots of boxes also that hold individual or a collection of different things but I do have quite a bit of drawer space, also a dressing table. None of my storage containers are at all fancy.

I have a drawer that I fitted out with white ice cube trays. I use that for my every day stuff. One thing in each square. For the rest I bought some tiny plastic bags with a zip lock top. They are about 3 inches square. I put one necklace or a pair of earrings or whatever in each and then I keep them in a box. It keeps everything from getting tangled up. Simple and inexpensive.

Do the still have the earring trees? I used one in the 70s(?) when I first got my ears pierced. I still have it, but when DH bought me a nice jewelry box I don't use it anymore.
