I found a box full of sheer window curtains in the attic of my parents estate. I though that before I put them out for the estate sale, I would freshen them up my washing them. I really had a tough time with them. I have a top-loader and the curtains just floated and the agitator didn't seem to be very effective; the curtains were just slipping over it and not being moved. Maybe I over-loaded the tub - it was filled right to the top? Any idea the best way to wash sheer curtains?

I always did mine in the washer but then I rehung them from the washer -- no dryer an no wrinkles for as they hung and dried the wrinkles came out.

Just used regular cycle and regular detergent.

I hand wash all curtains by washing in the tub. I keep filling the tub with soap, water and curtains, at least three times of fill and empty. Just enough water to cover curtains. I drain tub and let the curtains sit awhile I move around and change the position so most of the water has drained out and then I line dry. Perfect every time. Another note about line drying, if there is a stain on anything, line drying is the way to go after washing. If the stain isn't out it will not get set in with dryer heat.

I've always just done mine in the washer...both top load & front load. If you throw them in the dryer take them out when it shuts off...not later, THEN! I rehang or fold for storage...which ever.

I wonder if yours could possible have some kind of coating on the fabric? I had some along time ago that were hard to wash because of that coating/treatment.

I wash my sheers just like you did...Sometimes I put a towel in with them to "stir" them around a bit. You may have put too many in the washer but I doubt it. I think the cutains got washed...because what you described is proably what the washing of sheers looks like. I put my washed sheers in the dryer on low and take them out immediately! Fold them and hang them over a hanger unless you are going to put them on the windows and you can do that right away too.

I don't have any sheers, but I wash my lace curtains in the washer and just hang them back up to dry. After spinning, there's not much water left in them anyway.

Hand washing may work but that's of course if you don't have a lot of drapes. You could also try to put them in a sac and then put them in the washer and see how it works.

tip...imstead of multifolds, hang over a plastic hanger...i store them that way, as well...

what was crazy were the thermal curtains...took me forever to gently pull them apart..and that was on a cold water wash, no dryer...stored them the same way..
