I have used the powder version of **** and Span on very greasy clothes, and could not believe how well it worked. It's hard to find, though, so recently, I tried Lestoil after I read so many good things about it. It worked, but the small was bad. Have others of you had the same problem?

You're right, the smell is pretty bad.
My husband's work clothes used to get very dirty, mostly ground in dirt and perspiration, but with grease/oil spots sometimes thrown in. After I discovered I didn't like the smell that resulted from pouring Lestoil into the wash water, I started rubbing it full strength into just the grease spots, letting it sit a few minutes, then washing the clothes in hot water with washing soda added in the recommended amount. Washing soda has no smell at all, but is a rather powerful degreaser and deodorizer on its own. The smell from the Lestoil was 90% better than it had been pouring it into the water. By the time the clothes went through the dryer, there was only a trace of residual Lestoil smell. My method may not be as effective on some kinds of grease, like the kind auto mechanics or oil drillers get one them; but it worked well for the kinds of dirt I had to deal with. |
