First I just wanted to say thanks to all the great suggestions I have read on this board for many cleaning issues, including this one! Our shower is STILL clean and chrome and glass shiney! Today I just cleaned the floor with some Scrubbing Bubbles and a squirt of Dawn dish soap. This is the first time in nearly 6 weeks! And honestly it did not "really" need it. After a through cleaning and recaulking seams in the Swanstone stall, using RainX and GelGloss to coat and protect, switching to just liquid body wash (no bar soap allowed), and the BIG ONE..... Retraining DH to wipe down surfaces after every use, with a microfiber...it is still sparkling clean! Yeah!!!

Congrats to both of you...isn't it great when a solution comes together???
Thanks! I know it is such a small thing, but it makes me smile inside to walk into that shower. This past week I bought a Dyson handheld, battery operated, vacuum for the stair carpet, and it also works great in the bathroom (throw rugs and hard floor).
We use shower gel also and after every shower we squeegy the glass and wipe the crome down....Sparkling shower all the time and it takes so little time. love life
Hmmm... okay now. I don't need help with how to clean the shower. Tell me the part about how to retrain a husband!

Any of you ever watched the "Red Green show" from Canada? DH quotes the line from the Possum Club, "I'm a man,....I can change....if I have to." I think the fact that he had to move his stuff and use the downstairs shower for nearly 2 weeks while I worked on scraping off all the silicone caulk, the soap scum on the walls and listening to me complain....was enough motivation. He was willing to do whatever it took to not have a repeat until we sell this house.
Awwwuhhh... You got a Good One, Conrad. So did I. Problem is, we won't be selling our house. That'll be up to our kids to do. It'll be their chore to scrape his dratted Safeguard soap off the shower doors.
Could be worse? At least they shower regularly and are CLEAN men!
I just this week came across a quote by Abraham Lincoln that seems appropos: "We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or we can rejoice that thorn bushes have roses."

it took so many years to train my DH to wipe down the shower walls that I intend to keep him until we both could care less about the shower walls. html
so, am i hearing that it's the hard bar soap that is the culprit in the soap scum dilemma? that's a revelation, if so!
question answered; just saw the other post about cleaning showers! going to hide dh's bar soap! also, didn't know about using micro fiber towels to wipe down. must give that a try.
With a well, we always wipe down. Saves cleaning, doesn't it!

The glass (plastic) shower doors make us keep that shower sparkling. I will have to try the liquid soap to see if the bar soap is the problem. I blamed the plastic or glass doors. We also have very hard water and the cleaners for that didn't help much. html

Research said it tends to be the talc that is added to bar soap (to make it solid)that is the major issue. (Beauty soaps like Dove, have slightly less talc, thus the soap is softer/dissolves better) The talc residue attaches to the hard water minerals if present and forms a barrier that is difficult to remove when dry.
Where's the original post on cleaning the shower? Thanks!
Conrad, I have to say, anything and all things you post are always so smart, I wonder sometimes how you get your information, you have an answer to most questions... how do I fix my toilet to what color should I paint my walls? I've gone through many years of college, graduate school, medical training, and I still have not ascertained a fraction of your knowledge!!!
Oh Spanish Revival, you make me smile! Your knowledge is obviously so far more advanced and specialized then mine. I just tend to know a little bit about a lot of stuff, just because I am cheap and lazy (don't want to spend much money nor work too hard). Often just enough knowledge to get me into trouble! lol And I LOVE to research and HELPing people if I can...and doing so, often helps me too. Sharing knowledge is the best way we can utilize it, and I also learn a whole LOT from boards like these. coffeeluvr, not sure of the original but if you search back to the early pages of the cleaning board, it may still be there? What the subject line was...not sure either. This message has been edited. Last edited by: conrad,
