I have cleaned the area rug with my Bissell floor cleaner with several different cleaners that are supposed to rid it of the smell. I have tried nature's miracle. All with no luck of getting rid of the smell or now stopping my other cats from using this rug as the new pee spot. The cat that started peeing on the rug is not with us anymore but now my cats have started peeing in the same spot. This is not a cheap rug (over $1000) and I would like to keep it. Has anyone had luck using a carpet cleaning service that was able to get cat urine out of carpet? If so, which one was it? The spot they are peeing is only a 2ft x 2ft area and the rug is a 12ft x 10ft. Help I want to keep this rug!
Are you following the directions for the Nature's Miracle or other enzyme treatment? (btw, I think they now make a product specific for cat urine?)
Anyway the dilution has to be strong enough per directions and it must saturate the same area the urine soaked. Cover it with plastic to keep it from drying out as it works. (It only works while wet often overnight) If there is a pad or flooring under the rug, the NM has to penetrate and treat that also.
Try flipping the rug over and saturating it from the back, wait for it to dry, then do the front and so on... An inexpensive black light might help you to determine which areas need the cleaning elements.

I've decided that my cats are worth more than any possession I own but sure do understand why you are trying to repair this rug!
I agree with Conrad. It sounds to me like you aren't using the Nature's Miracle correctly.
If I recall correctly the rug cleaning machines put down the cleaner, then immediatly vacuum it up. Natures Miracle takes several hours to work. It won't work with a carpet cleaning machine.
Put the Nature's Miracle in a spray bottle or even a bucket. Saturate the area, then walk away. It needs to stay wet for several hours.

I agree with the others. While I have never used Nature's Miracle, I have used several other brands of enzyme cleaners and the key to them working is to pour it directly onto the affected area, thouroughly saturating it. Don't just spray, but pour and soak.
You might have to do this more than once, but it has always worked for me by saturating the area and letting it dry- this can be a several day process.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Becky56,
Cat urine can really give you a hard time. have you tried using peroxide? Peroxide breaks down the components in the cat urine which cause stains and odor. Just pour a small amount directly on the area and allow it to dry. Then rinse with warm water and soak up with a rag or paper towel. this should work for you. If not, then there are other products available in the market like Bramton Simple Solution, OdorXit, Just Rite Urine Cleaning Products etc.

Google 123 odor free..it's a 3 step enzymne cleaner. used it in my daughter's bed room over a year ago for multiple urine stains from a male cat(he had a UTI)and the smell has not returned.
