We just survived a big kitchen remodel and my SS sink in the laundry room is just plain grungy and gross. Grout, paint, construction cleanup, etc have all left it a mess. I scrubbed with Comet but would like to go back and really get it clean.

Any suggestions on a better cleaner?

Try liquid Barkeepers Friend.

There used to be stainless steel cleaners on the market. It helped my sinks that were old. But that was several yrs. ago as when we built our house, I refused to have another stainless steel anything!

Barkeepers Friend for sure--it really gets my ss sink clean.

Do not use bleach, it can react with stainless steel and cause gray or gold stains. So make sure your Comet does not have bleach...or use Bar Keepers friend as recommended above (I also like BKF). Tried the liquid, prefer the powder.

Check any cleaners to make sure they are safe for stainless steel on the label. Also never use steel wool or any steel scrubber, just nylon or one that says it is safe for SS. Vinegar soaked paper towels will remove those hard water stains around faucets, ledges or drains, if left in place overnight.
For a final treatment I personally like Gel Gloss, pink can from hardware or box stores. Seems to last the longest for a shine and water beading, and can be used on Formica counter tops, marble and other surfaces. Applies like a wax, dries to a haze and buffs off with a soft, dry cloth.

I use Bon Ami.

I switched from Bon Ami to Barkeeper's Friend, which works wonderfully!

Ooooops, it was not Bon Ami, it was Soft Scrub. The BF product works much better.

You should get the grout and other large debris off first with a (nonmetal)scraper...make sure you scrape in the same direction as the lines in the SS.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - I've yet to stop at the store to pick up any product. I used a green scrubby to take the first layer of crud off, but the Comet just didn't do the trick.

We tore out the SS sink from the kitchen in the upgrade - I just LOVE the new cast iron enamel unit we put in. Sooooo easy to wipe clean!

Be sure to always use safe, non abrasive cleaners (if ever needed) on the new porcelain enamel sink that you LOVE...to keep it easy to clean.

Another vote for Barkeeper's Friend.

That's the only thing I use as well-Barkeepers Friend.

I was able to pick up the BKF today at the store, now I just need to quit procrastinating and go out to the laundry and scrub!

ETA: My "helper" and I scrubbed (ok - she has paws so just sat and supervised) the sink. The BKF did get the layers of grime out, so thanks to all for the suggestion!

add barkeepers for me, also..used a stiff scrub brush (natural bristle) and was very happy...btw used it on the "floor" of the shower, and removed yellowing...

I have a couple liquid BKF containers, and as mentioned I really much prefer the powder. Seems no matter how much I shake the liquid, it still separates and is just too runny?

And (KeepYouInStitches) I still have Bon Ami, which was my staple prior to BKF.
Can pretty much use it on any surface safely, but sometimes seems not to have the same punch as BKF.
