Hi

We have a 4 year old Kenmore washer and dryer. For the past few weeks, when the dryer runs, we get a stale-water smell in the air near the dryer. It is pretty strong. We have tried a few things like cleaning the area near the dryer, cleaning the lint trap as much as we could do manually, running the washer with a load of bleach in case that is the source. But the problem still persists.

Any ideas? - Does it mean that the dryer lint vent needs thorough cleaning all the way to the outside of the house? Or is it that stale water is accumulated somewhere in the washer pipes?

I'd clean the lint trap, and vent all the way from the inside to the dryer to the outside of the house.

move both appliances and scrub the floors under and let them dry thoroughly.

run the washer with bleach only, wash the rim of the washer basket and along the inside of the lid.

water is settling someplace.

We cleaned the lint t rap and dryer vent. The dryer vent was broken and all the lint was collecting in the crawlspace. We fixed that. I thought we had found the source of the problem. But when we ran the dryer again, the smell was still there!!

Help please - should we get the dryer serviced (cleaned from inside) or call a general plumber?
