I'm afraid I've been guilty of ignoring my shower doors, so now I've got a lot of buildup on them, in spite of wiping them down with a squeegee after each use. Do you have a favorite product?

If you have a lot of buildup, you will probably need to use a mild abrasive (4zero steel wool will not scratch glass) and maybe a single edge razor blade to manually scrape off the hard water and soap buildup.

Things like vinegar and commercial products like Limeaway can work really well, but they sort of need to soak a bit into the surface, especially with the milder vinegar. Hard to accomplish on a vertical surface. If they are removable (usually the tub type doors can be) and you can lay them flat on some saw horses, then saturating the surface with a mild acid (like white vinegar) can work really well when left overnight. Laying soaked paper towels or old tshirt fabric over the surface saturating and keeping it wet with some plastic over all, also helps.

I use Logostina Pot Cleaner!! It's non abrasive, and it removed hard water marks REALLY quickly and easily!

Best to just get ****** and jump in the shower.. wet the glass, using a paper towel, sprinkle cleaner onto damp (not soaking paper towel) rub all over... rinse, and then use a squeegee to remove excess water...

It's so amazingly easy you'll wonder why you scrub with all kids of chemicals that never worked.

PS: And you'll be amazed what it will do to your pots, and SS bowls..they'll look like new again... one of my ALL time favorite MUST have product!

I have heard of using shaving cream on glass & mirrors.It helps to keepthe mirror from fogging up too.

Spray with Simple Green.

Steam after Simple Green, if needed.

I use lime away. It's the best I have found.

I had been struggling with this too in the past. One day a customer and I were talking and she told me that she used oven cleaner on her shower doors. I thought this was pretty strange but decided to give it a try. IT WAS AMAZING!! I could not believe it! I sprayed it on, let it set for a bit and then rinsed it off. No effort at all. Just make sure you have plenty of ventilation! Maybe test it on a small part first before you spray the whole thing....just to be sure!!!

The Easy Off heavy duty oven cleaner that you can use in a cold oven?
That is something I sure have never tried! We now have shower curtains everywhere but one single door, and we do keep it wiped dry after every shower. But DD has a double glass door I will have to try that on, next time I am there!Thanks!

I, too, have tried the Easy Off Oven Cleaner that works in a cold oven for other purposes - worked for me. In my case, I used it on an oil stain (fresh) in the garage - saturate completely, let sit 15-20 minutes, cover with cat litter and sweep/dispose of all of it but do make sure that you are working in a well-ventilated area - that stuff is potent!

Will have to give it a try on shower doors!

And after you get them nice and shiny clean just keep a squeegee in the shower and squeegee the wall and glass and this will help to keep it clean looking between the weekly deep cleanings!

I do that now too Spanish Revival.
DH prefers to wipe it down with a small microfiber towel...both techniques save a lot of useless scrubbing and it always looks good, especially since I have banned all bar soap in the shower!

Has anyone ever applied rainX to their shower doors after cleaning? Wonder if it would keep stuff from building up for awhile?
I don't have doors, I have shower curtains...I just throw mine in the washer & then rehang!
I don't like doors!...but that's me!

The Rainx seemed to help some (for a while anyway). But after once clean, drying/squeegeeing the glass AND using shower gel rather than bar soap is the best answer I have discovered, (if your water is hard with minerals).

Apparently you have soft water. That won't work in the lime slurry that passes for water here. I use Daily Shower Cleaner spray. The Big Lots house brand is great, and its a lot cheaper than the stuff at WalMart.

The squeegee and a quick wipe down with a microfiber towel works for us JoW. And we are on non softened Lincoln city water (also pretty hard). Been doing this since the last cleaning and the whole shower stall/glass door still looks really clean.

The last time I cleaned the shower door (maybe a year and half ago?), I used 4zero steel wool, a single blade razor and polishing compound, but I missed an area near the top (did not get completely clean). I did try the oven cleaner on that corner area of haze on the shower door and it did not seem to work, even after several hours. Darn.

I still feel the best thing for preventing the buildup is the elimination of the hard, talc rich, bar soap, and the use of liquid body wash instead...assuming you do not have soft water.
