Eek Where do I post a photo of this humongous spider my husband just killed for me?
(it'd be the before photo, of course!)

(I'm usually hanging out in the general decorating forum, but...this is obviously not a subject for that board. ;-)

I want to know what he is (was) and where he came from.

Am I not cleaning enough in the nooks and crannies?

JSD, Oh yes you'll look. Wink Ya have to now!

A.N.: Sorry I took so long. Had to reboot my computer for some reason.

Inside front door.
(The photo reveals some dust and......is that an iddy-biddy-baby-spider in hanging in there off to the corner?)

LOL!

Wow! I did a super zoom-in on my original photo and that speck def. is a tiny baby spider...not just one, but 2! (1 above to and 1 below.)

This camera takes good photos!

Now, anybody know what he is? He was really a fast runner, too. EEEEEKK!

It looks looks like a spider we used to get when we lived in a rural area of Southern California and I believe they are harmless, just big and scary looking. If you are concerned about safety, I wonder if you could email the picture to a pest control company for more information.

It looks like a wolf spider. As Always Nesting said, it is big and scary looking but they are non-venomous. In fact, they will eat other spiders (and other things) in your house. They are very timid, so you don't usually see them--you must of have been unlucky that day. (Though off-hand, I'd say the spider was unluckier!) Razz

He killed it??? How awful!!

Here's the spider I had my son rescue from the front step and take out to the backyard. It's about 2 inches long.

To capture and rescue spiders drop a plastic cup over it and then carefully slip a piece of cardboard under the cup and carry it outside. Spiders are beneficial.

I believe that is a wolf spider.
They are very scary looking aren't they.
Be careful if it has an egg sack - when you destroy it - the babies will come flying out.
This happened to my brother and his wife and there were hundreds of babies.
EWWWWWW!!
Good Luck

Thanks, everybody! I'm sorry now that we smooshed him/her, scissorqueen & spundtruvy. I do feel a little remorse. There was a lot of "muck", I think my husband called it. Maybe it was its babies Frown

AN: I'm not really that concerned about being bit. (or am I?) Eek But, yours is a good idea to ask a pest control company, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Next time we'll try to put 'em outside.

Shhh...I think DH was more afraid of it than I. Cool

Fall is spider ma*ting season so they all come out looking for each other.

I get a lot of spiders in my area. They used to drive me crazy, but I bought some of those little things that you plug in. They are a little box that emits a sound that humans can't hear, but insects don't like. I was a little skeptical, but they weren't expensive and they don't involve anything toxic so I thought I'd give them a try. I swear - I haven't seen a spider for a year. I can't remember what the product is called, but you get them at a hardware store. (They look kind of like a Glade plug in.)

ROFLOL!! I forgot about that!

I almost always rescue spiders that are in the house that need to go out. I just let jumping spiders live in the house.

I let a black widow spider live in the corner of my garage every summer. They eat a remarkable amount of bugs. When they have babies they have to go though. One black widow is okay, 1000 are not okay.

OH, MY, MARTHA!! It looks like she has a horrible skin disease.

So funny what I've started here. And how much I've learned! Wolf spider. Won't hurt me.

Spiders have become a hot topic the office, too. Once I showed my picture, people started to tell all sorts of funny spider stories.

So...what do I do with that large web outside my BACK DOOR now? I don't like it. :-(

I am not afraid of nature or her creatures. I will not live in a concrete jungle....I find these things an absolute wonder. Just for you donna, I found this lil baby in the barn this summer....(just a harmless rat snake)

Martha, fyi, in case you don't already know this: your "lizard" looks like a five-lined skink. If you have cats, don't let them catch and eat one--some cats have been paralyzed by toxins contained in glands in the skinks' skin.

And you're lucky to have that rat snake--rats are waaay more dangerous as disease carriers. Good on ya!

I already had a rat snake take up residence at the front door. Had to go out the garage door and look before I stepped out. My friend took him away. Now I have a black racer that lives by the front door. I always use the garage door now.

Never saw a lizard like that here. My dd would freak out because she is afraid of the little lizards.

I have been finding lots of black widows here in my pool cage, must be that time of year.

I see you are in Florida donna.....I would think you are pretty used to wildlife in and around the house.....LOL...at least the geckos!

I have tons of those....I used to think they were cute until I have to catch one for the 100th time to put him outdoors where he belongs!

yes the 'lizard' is actually a skink. five lined or blue tailed which ever name you prefer.

we have had a wonderful autumn for spiders. I personally find them fascinating and kind of lovely. course I generally feel that way about just about any critter.. (except dogs) we had a wolf spider nesting in the fuschias this summer and had a hatching of spiderlings early it was so cool to watch them all float away on their silk..

I dont think I've ever killed a spider. I just pick them up and move them.
