I've lived in this house since 1975 and haven't had this problem, but this year I seem to be plagued with mice, flies and bats getting inside. I've looked around for anyplace they could be coming in, but of course, didn't see anything obvious. I catch the bats with a net I made from an old broom handle, a coat hanger bent into a circle and a plastic bag taped to that. I let them go outside. The cats take care of the mice, but I still have to dispose of the bodies. A flyswatter takes care of the insects (there must have been 50 flies in the kitchen windows yesterday, but I don't seem them in other rooms). Now why this year am I having so many invaders? Where are they coming from?

Bats seem to be looking for places to set up new houses right now. We have one that has taken up residence in our patio umbrella. Mice & insects...do you have anything out that could be drawing them in...pet foods, food scraps in trash cans, etc.? If not, they may be coming in due to winter coming on. We are getting field mice (they are bigger than a house mouse) in our shop. I think they are wanting to set up winter quarters...and our cats are getting them too! Flies will come in to get out of rain also. And just another thought...since most of us had such a mild winter last year, a lot of these pests didn't get killed off like normal...making them more plentiful.

Bats can get it a hole 1/4 inch. Your house has maybe settled and opened up a tiny hole or holes. We had bats in the house I grew up in. My dad would go to the attic during the day. Anywhere he saw daylight coming in, he would put steel wool and then caulk it. It took a couple of years but eventually he found all the holes and got them filled.
