This used to be my favorite show. I once lived in a 300 sq foot apartment in Boston, and have since moved to a bungalow with a sq foot of 625 so watching the show gives me great ideas. I am watching the show now and they keep showing places that are 1000 sq feet - that is not small for a city...Interestingly, a loft located in East Boston is being shown now...BORING...,it is 1000 sq feet! Show me a place under 500 and I'll be impressed....

Yay! Revere Beach!

One of my favorite places way back in the day

I agree with you on size, 1000 square feet is large, imo.

It is difficult to chose favorites apartments on "Small Space, Big Style."

One of the memorable is the apartment in NYC that's almost all white with the elevated bed space, and the cute dog.

This show is the most inspirational of any on HGTV. The decorating is outstanding, the innovation is unbelievable. It really makes me want to live in those spaces but when I mark off that much area in my own space I don't know how they do it. I never miss a show if I can help it.

I loved this show but never get to see it anymore since I work days. I live in a 525 sq ft cottage and love every sq inch of it and would not want to go back to a big house ever again.

You are also right about the 1000' apts. Only a snob would call that a small space.

That white apt in NY was fabulous, I agree.
Please HGTV, give us another show of this quality!!

I LOVE this show. I wish they were still taping it. I agree that 1,000 square feet is pretty big, especially when it's one bedroom, one bathroom, but I still like to see how the space has been used.

Maybe we could have a new show..."Mediocre Spaces, High Design" to help homeowners/renters living in cookie cutter homes with a bit more space, but still with space constraints.

Sometimes I'm amazed on "House Hunters" or "Property Virgins" when the realtor says, "and here's a 1,300 square foot house with four bedrooms and 1½ baths." Then, the person looking at the house comments that the bedrooms are "small." Well...duh!

That might be a good show! Lots of mediocre homes and few high design solutions though! LOL

I agree about the space issues - you cannot expect 3 or 4 15x15 bedrooms in a 1300 sq. ft. space. I'm pretty claustrophobic and would have a very hard time in some small spaces as shown on that program, even though I think some of the space solutions are wonderful. You do have to be realistic in your expectations. I'm helping a client with a small condo (under 700sq.ft.) and it's not easy but I think will be cute and cozy when we're finished.

Hi Yardbee - I saw that SSBS episode, loved the dog, not crazy about an all white apartment but loved architecture and storage.

i had a 710 sqft Jr 5 and it felt huge enough for me until i had a daughter. We were a little squeezed but only because i was a collector. of stuff. not good for a small 'space'. Big Grin

I think the exact same thing! How big of a room do you expect to have in a 1300 sq. ft. house that has 4 of them! Unless, of course, you didn't actually need to have a kitchen or any living space. Then you could have pretty good size rooms, I guess. : )
